This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Microsoft try to dissuade users from using competing products. The company shows Edge ad banners to those who search for Google Chrome on Bing. Those who ignore this and continue see a message at the top of the Chrome download page that Edge is also based on Chromium technology.
Microsoft has yet to make any official statement regarding the potentially malicious marking of ChromeSetup.exe. The company may also have fixed the error in question. However, the warning continues to appear on some devices running Windows 10 and 11.
