SpaceX, of which Elon Musk is the CEO, continues its space studies at full speed. Finally, the company, which has obtained the necessary permissions for the launch of the Starship spacecraft, continues the tests of the new generation Super Heavy rocket. However, the explosion during the tests seems to annoy Elon Musk.
SpaceX’s Mars plans may be delayed
The images of the explosion were shared second-by-second by NASASpaceflight, which broadcast live from SpaceX’s Starbase facility in Texas. The explosion that occurred at the base of the rocket turned into a large ball of fire. It is stated that smoke rose in the region for about an hour after the explosion.
But despite this explosion, the rocket looks solid. Elon Musk, on the other hand, commented on the situation as “Not good” on Twitter. The company’s CEO also said that the team is currently assessing the extent of the damage. Along with the damage assessment, the cause of the explosion will also be investigated.
It is still unclear whether the explosion will adversely affect SpaceX’s Starship spacecraft work. As it is known, the company designed the Starship spacecraft to send it to missions on the Moon and Mars. SpaceX plans to launch Starship into space with the help of its new Super Heavy rocket.
Elon Musk previously announced that Starship will be launched into space at the end of July. However, with this explosion on the launch pad, SpaceX’s plans may change. It is stated that depending on the damage, the company’s first launch may be delayed until August or later.
At about 120 meters long, the spacecraft is the most powerful rocket ever. The spacecraft is home to 33 Raptor engines that provide 75.6 million Newtons of thrust. This makes Starship nearly twice as powerful as NASA’s SLS rocket.
SpaceX recently passed an environmental review by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The Starbase facility was allowed to launch rockets, with the company performing certain tasks set by the FAA.
