While some rumors suggest we might see the first batch of MacBook models with M3 processors this year, a DigiTimes report says Apple plans to release these models in 2024.
The following sentences in the news attract attention: “In 2023, the share of laptops produced using Arm-based processors will probably decrease rather than increase. Because Apple, which has adopted in-house designed Arm-based CPUs for most of its laptop series, will rely on TSMC for performance upgrades in 2024.” It is known that it plans to switch to CPUs produced by the 3nm node.”
Apple released the first M2 Macs in June 2022 and introduced the entire family a year later by announcing the high-end Mac Studio and Mac Pro models. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman claimed that Apple was preparing the first M3 model series, consisting of the 13-inch MacBook Pro, 13-inch MacBook Air and 24-inch iMac, to be released this October. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo supports DigiTimes’ news, saying that Apple does not plan to introduce new M3 MacBook models in 2023.
Although there are also rumors of renewals for the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros, the first new Macs that Apple will announce are expected to be the entry models of the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and the M3-chip iMac. It is also rumored that the Cupertino giant may introduce new iPad models with a few technical feature changes this year, but it seems more likely that the company will prefer a press release rather than a special announcement.
