Apple launched AirTag in April, which allows consumers to track their devices. Although these tiny devices are designed as a key finder so that people can find personal objects they forgot to put, they can also be abused by malicious people in some areas.

York area police have issued a warning stating that AirTags have been used on at least five occasions to steal cars parked in public places, MacRumors reports. The thieves then watch the small transmitter devices they hide in spots such as the bumper or the inside of the fender on their mobile phones. After the car is parked in a secluded place that is easy to steal, they begin an attempt to steal the vehicles. Although five thefts of this type have been reported so far, it is thought that there may be many vehicles that have been tagged and tracked by the thieves.
