Developed by Bethesda Game Studios, Starfield has recently started pre-loads. Gamers who pre-loaded the space-themed action role-playing game Starfield’s files with a sad omission: no trace of Nvidia’s DLSS or Intel’s XeSS technologies.

No DLSS 3 and XeSS for Starfield

Search Starfield’s boot files on PC, a user posted a screenshot highlighting various files and folders. As can be seen from the published image, it is understood that only AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0, namely FSR 2, is in Starfield. On the other hand, there is no trace of other supersampling technologies, DLSS or XeSS.

Actually, it wasn’t a big surprise. A few months ago, AMD announced that it was working with Bethesda and announced that it was an “exclusive PC partner for Starfield.” While this doesn’t rule out the possibility of XeSS and DLSS support coming to the game later, the signs suggest that FSR 2.0 will be Starfield’s only supersampling technology available to PC gamers (at least for a start).

Supersampling technologies, which simply increase the frame rate in games with minimum quality loss, are among the sought-after features for gamers recently. DLSS 3, which comes with the RTX 40 series, is seen as more successful than its competitors. On the other hand, the current FSR 2 (March 2022) and its iterations are gradually closing the gap with its rival. AMD will also be rolling out FSR 3 soon. The most important difference between FSR and DLSS is that AMD’s technology is hardware independent and open source. Therefore, it can also work with Nvidia or Intel cards in other games, including Starfield.
