Pokémon, which continues its popularity from games to spin-offs, was also very popular in the 2000s. In fact, it had reached such a level that there were even children who thought they were Pikachu.

“Why was the Pokémon cartoon banned?” If we ask, you probably all think of a boy jumping out of the window. However, another girl we don’t know much jumped out of the window.

So what happened in the case of jumping out of the window that we all know, “I’m Pikachu”?

Ferhat Ağırbaş, who was influenced by the Pokémon cartoon when he was only 4 years old, jumped from the 7th floor. When asked why he jumped out the window by chance, the boy who survived said, “I am a Pokémon and I flew like a Pokémon.” he said.

As far as we remember, we can think that the Pokémon cartoon was banned after this incident, but there was another case that we did not hear much about, and in fact, the cartoon was banned after this incident.

Another name that caused the Pokemon cartoon to be banned was Seda Aykanat.

In the incident in November 2000, a girl named Seda Aykanat jumped from the 5th floor and broke her leg. He even told a friend who came to visit while he was in the hospital, “When my foot heals, I will fly better again.” he said.

Osman Durmuş, Minister of Health at the time, asked the experts to examine the effect of the Pokémon cartoon on children.

Upon this request, experts said that children were distracted from reality because of Pokémon and that by presenting both good and bad heroes, it confused them and desensitized them to violence.

Thus, it was concluded that the popularity of cartoons and toys had to be lowered, and it was removed from the broadcast by “slowly forgetting” in order to prevent the children from attracting more interest by introducing a sudden ban.
