Has the AFAD Emergency Call mobile application crashed?
The AFAD application makes it possible to make emergency calls over the internet. Thanks to the application, even if the battery of the phone runs out, the work of search and rescue teams can be carried out as the location information is processed into the system. Therefore, the application has an extremely critical importance.
What happened?
The 7.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred at 04:17 in the Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş province caused serious destruction. In the region where more than 66 aftershocks occurred, the people affected still have not recovered from the shock they experienced. AFAD and other teams continue their search and rescue activities throughout the region.
What not to do?
AFAD says that citizens should not give credence to unfounded information shared knowingly or unknowingly on various media, especially on social media platforms. It is underlined that information, videos or images that are not related to the earthquake can be shared on social media, so only official sources should be followed for accurate information.
If you are in the earthquake zone or not, make sure to keep your voice calls as limited as possible. Make your calls via SMS or internet-based messaging applications. It is extremely important not to cause congestion in places where there are search and rescue activities.
