As environmental pollution increases day by day, it is time to say goodbye to fossil fuels. In this process, renewable energy breakthroughs have gained momentum all over the world. In this process, wind energy also stands out as an important resource. While the number of wind farms is increasing day by day, the size of wind turbines has started to grow.

World’s most powerful wind turbine to be unveiled later this year

General Electric (GE), one of the largest wind turbine manufacturers, announced that they have developed a 17-18 megawatt (MW) Haliade-X offshore wind turbine. With the statement made by the CEO of the company, Scott Strazik, at GE’s investor conference, the race for the wind turbine started.

Turbine manufacturers come up with bigger designs every day to produce more energy. In January, China’s CSSC Haizhuang introduced the rotor hub and nacelle for an 18 MW offshore wind turbine prototype. This wind turbine, which will have a rotor diameter of 260 meters, will have a scanning area of 53 thousand square meters with its 128-meter blades.

GE introduced the Haliade-X model, which can produce over 12 MW of power last December. The company has also obtained a usage certificate for operations up to 14.7 MW from DNV, the world’s largest independent certification body, for this model. The company’s Haliade-X model is currently the most powerful wind turbine.

Following this turbine, which was introduced in December, the company has also gained power for new and larger wind turbines. General Electric plans to launch the 17-18MW Haliade-X version this year. The company has not yet shared any details about the new model. However, the new model seems to improve the record held by GE.

While the renewable energy race continues at full speed, wind energy has also played an important role in this regard. So what do you think about the growing wind turbines? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
