Even though they are not frequently found in our country, there are quite a lot of planes that attract attention with their different designs around the world. Some of these planes have different designs, some have a very large interior volume, and some of them stand out with a very different feature. We have compiled the world’s largest planes and their features for you. If you have traveled abroad before, you may have experienced one of these planes.

The planes used in our country have smaller volumes than the planes going abroad. Popular airline companies such as AnadoluJet, THY and Pegasus put almost the same type of aircraft into service within the country. But if you want to travel abroad, this situation takes on a very different dimension. Because the planes used abroad are very different from the planes in our country. If you wish, without further ado, let’s move on to our list of the world’s largest planes.

The world’s largest airplanes:

Airbus A380
Boeing 747-8
Boeing 777-9
Antonov An-124
Lockheed C-5 Galaxy
Airbus Beluga XL
Boeing Dreamlifter
Hughes H-4 Hercules

The biggest of its time: Airbus A380

The first member of the list is the Airbus A380, one of the largest passenger jets ever. This model is one of the largest passenger jets in the world with its passenger capacity, volume, weight and wingspan. We cannot say the longest. Because there are the longest different model airplanes. The Airbus A380 can serve up to 853 passengers in total. This passenger capacity is considerably higher than the aircraft used within the borders of the country. Although it has a capacity of 853 passengers, airlines usually place 400 to 500 seats, using less than the passenger capacity of the plane.

This aircraft, which has great engineering, is one of the rare models that pushes the limits as much as possible. Because it has a serious wingspan, passenger capacity and weight. If you get the opportunity to see the Airbus A380 live, we are sure that you will be amazed by it.

Longer model: Boeing 747-8

We talked about the biggest one, let’s talk about the longer one. Our next member is the Boeing 747-8 model with a capacity of 450 passengers. After the A380, the Boeing 747 model claimed the title of the largest passenger aircraft in the world. After its launch in 1968, it is more than twice the size of a model. The 747, which is targeted to be built, collaborated with Pan American World Airways. The aircraft, which was expected to be produced with a larger deck, could not be produced because it did not meet the safety requirements.

A legend is coming: Boeing 777-9

Let’s come to the Boeing 777-9 model, which has a distance of more than 76 meters. The Boeing 777-9 has the capacity to become the longest passenger plane once it goes into use. However, the aircraft, which will support up to 426 passengers, has similar features to the 747-8. The 777X model has a dual engine. However, the GE9X models it contains are known as the most powerful and largest commercial engine ever produced. Looks like we need some time to see the 777X family in the air.

There are only 22 of them: Antonov An-124

The Antonov An-124, the largest commercially produced aircraft before the Boeing 747-8, was launched in 1982. When it was first introduced, 55 aircraft were produced. After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, most of the An-225s were scrapped. The An-124 model is much smaller than the An-225. According to research conducted in August, currently 22 An-124 models are active and in use. The vast majority of these aircraft belong to the Russian Air Force. The remainder is employed by Russian cargo specialist Volga-Dnepr.

Both transportation and refueling: Lockheed C-5 Galaxy

One of the leaders of transport and freight aircraft, the C-5 Galaxy model is produced by Lockheed. The US giant aircraft company introduced the C-5 Galaxy model in 1970. This aircraft has a length of 75 meters. With this length, it has a longer design than the A380 and An-124 models. With a maximum payload of up to 127 tons, this aircraft also provides refueling. He currently serves in the United States Air Force.

Improved model: Airbus Beluga XL

Let’s come to the modified A330 model. The Airbus Beluga XL is not an airplane model made from scratch. This aircraft is known as a modified and further developed version of the Airbus A330. This plane is so big that even the giant aircraft company Airbus uses it for transportation. Airbus frequently prefers to use the Beluga XL model for the transportation of aircraft parts. This model was introduced in early 2000 and is known as a larger A330 model.

Built for the transfer: Boeing Dreamlifter

Let’s come to the Dreamlifter model, which has a 747-400 fuselage and was modified by Boeing. This model was originally produced to transfer parts of the Boeing 787 model from suppliers in Italy and Japan to assembly plants. The model entered service in 2007 and is the aircraft with the largest fuselage volume after the Beluga XL. But it has a much larger carrying volume than the Beluga XL.

Used in WWII: Hughes H-4 Hercules

Let’s come to the Hughes H-4 Hercules aircraft, which stands out again with its size. This aircraft was built on a single prototype after it was built, and a new prototype was never produced. The aircraft was produced for use in the Second World War and could carry a total of 750 soldiers. However, it had the capacity to carry a full 30-ton M4 tank. After the end of the Second World War, this aircraft was never used until 1947.

Antonov An-225 Destroyed by Russian Troops

Let’s come to the Antonov An-225, the world’s second largest cargo plane. This aircraft, which was produced during the Soviet Union and belonged to the Soviet Union, made its first flight in 1988. It is exactly 84 meters long and 18 meters high. With a curb weight of 285 tons, it was one of the rarest aircraft in world history. On February 27, 2022, he unfortunately faced an unfortunate event during the Russo-Ukrainian war. This rare aircraft belonging to Antonov Airlines was unfortunately destroyed by Russian troops during the war.

We answered the question of which are the world’s largest airplanes ever. There are dozens of large aircraft models that are still used or no longer used in world history. As we said before, it is very difficult to see these planes right now. Because some of them are used for quite long journeys, while others are used only for transportation. It is very difficult for you to come across these planes on your domestic flights. What do you think about these planes? Don’t forget to share it with us in the comments.

Have you ever thought about how the engines that make these gigantic planes fly work? In this content, we explained it in its simplest form:
