The self-flying taxi of the air taxi startup Wisk, which has been working with Boeing for a while, comes with an advanced design and many safety features. Wisk’s new autonomous electric plane carries four passengers, but must first get approval from the Federal Aviation Administration before it can serve as a commercial air taxi. There are a few steps to take before getting to this point.

The world’s first pilotless electric flying taxi

Wisk Aero is unique in that it does not have a pilot, but is an eVTOL (vertical take-off and landing) vehicle. Thanks to 6 fixed electric motors behind both wings, it can take off and land vertically like a helicopter. It can fly at speeds of 203 to 222 km at the front and has 6 more adjustable electric rotors that help it reach altitudes between 2500 and 4000 feet.

Charge in 15 minutes

As for battery life, Wisk claims the aircraft has a range of 90 miles in its current form, great for fast city travel thanks to its small wingspan of under 50ft. The aircraft uses fast charging technology similar to that of electronic vehicles; It is stated to charge in 15 minutes or less.

The probability of an accident is one in a billion.

Regarding the safety of its autonomous electric aircraft, Wisk said, “Including autonomous flight under human control, a simplified design with fewer moving parts, fully redundant systems, and the absence of a single point of failure, Wisk’s aircraft has a design that exceeds today’s stringent aviation safety standards, and the probability of an accident may occur. one in a billion.”

First test flight completed

The FAA requires aviation companies to obtain three different certifications before offering commercial services. In order for Wisk to put its autonomous flying taxi into service, it must obtain the FAA safety standard, manufacturing certification and air carrier certification. The first test flight was carried out.
