An engineering student named Ken Pillonel has created the world’s first and only iPhone with a Type-C port, replacing the standard lightning port of an iPhone X. Initially a simple engineering project, iPhone X with USB-C input could be used successfully for both charging and data transfer. Ken Pillonel has auctioned this device, which has no other example in the world, on eBay.
Stating that he will not accept any responsibility in case of any problems that may be encountered with the device, Pillonel sold the device by accepting the highest offer.
World’s first and only iPhone with USB Type-C port sold for record price
The young engineer, a software and hardware developer, reminded that this device, which can be used successfully, is a prototype, and stated that the device can be used without any problems unless it is opened. There were conditions for the person who would buy the phone not to use the phone as the main device and not to update it. This iPhone, which has a USB-C input, has attracted a lot of attention in a short time. Bids at the auction, which started at $1000, exceeded 10 thousand in a short time. This iPhone, which received 116 bids during the auction period, found its buyer for $86,001.
Ken Pillonel, who posted a video on YouTube explaining the device project, which was sold at a record price, shared the details of his work as open source on GitHub. The young engineer explained his project, “My primary goal in the project was to make the electronics work successfully and to fit the modification I made to the iPhone. After a long struggle, I made the world’s first iPhone with a USB Type-C port. The device supports charging and data transfers. ” he told. Engineer Pillonel says he wants to add fast charging, water resistance and USB-C accessory support to the phone.
