Advertisements that haunt us on social media platforms are increasing day by day. YouTube ads, in particular, have started to get out of hand in recent years. These ads, which appear at the beginning or in the middle of the videos we watch on the platform and are sometimes impossible to skip, make the user experience bad.
YouTube, which virtually forced users to switch to Premium subscriptions and increased the number of ads, imposed video viewing limits on users using ad-blocking add-ons. Any viewer using one of these add-ons was unable to watch any video at all after watching 3 videos. However, now a plug-in that prevents this has been developed.
The plug-in called “Ad Speedup” offered in the Chrome store speeds up YouTube ads instead of skipping them.
A developer on Reddit has developed the “Ad Speedup” plugin that speeds up ads instead of skipping them. This plug-in, which is also compatible with Microsoft’s Edge browser, speeds up videos by 16 times and does not require any ad blocker plug-in.
The add-on detects ads in the video and plays them 16 times faster than normal. However, it does not close the playing ads and the user must close the ads manually. It is said that the next version will skip ads without the need for this manual closure.
The plugin that speeds up ads works as follows:
Even the viewing time of advertisements has an impact on the income of content producers. Channel owners can earn income through advertisements displayed in addition to the number of views of their videos. It is not yet known whether this add-on, which speeds up ads and goes directly to video, will have an impact on the income of content producers.
However, for an ad-free video experience, this add-on, developed outside of the Premium subscription, can be an alternative option. It is already a matter of curiosity whether YouTube will take a step in this regard.
