People who play games can be more practical at processing information, according to Ray Perez, a program officer with the US Office of Naval Studies. “Video games can change the structure and organization of a person’s brain,” Perez said in a statement.
However, it should not be overlooked that some officials objected to the effect of war games on soldiers. Jon-Marc Thibodeau, who works as a medical chief at a US military base, said that young soldiers playing games are physically unfit for the army. He even called these soldiers the “Nintendo Generation”.
But a study by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) showed that video games have changed the way the American people view the military. According to the report, 16- and 24-year-old citizens “are warm to the idea of joining the military”.
As war games such as Call of Duty, Battlefield and Medal of Honor become more realistic, it is inevitable that they will be preferred by military institutions. The popularity of online games on platforms like Twitch indicates the need for an innovative approach to training soldiers.
