Although casinos are already places with a high potential to attract customers, they constantly want more and at this point they make moves that even affect human psychology. Everything from A to Z has been thought out so that people can spend more time here.
But how can the steps we take within the casino relate to these strategies?
Casinos are places where many strategies prevail.
For example, it is not possible to see any clocks or windows in casinos. The reason for this is to make people lose track of time and to make their nights turn into days, so to speak. Players who lose track of time will gamble much more.
In fact, it can be said that the creator of this and similar casino tricks is Bill Friedman, a former gambling addict. Although Friedman stopped his gambling habit at some point in his life, years later he wrote a book that caused more people to become addicted to gambling.
This book titled “Designing Casinos to Dominate the Competition” gives many clues about this finishing school.
Bill Friedman explains the best methods for attracting people to casinos in his 630-page book, which can be read even now. Because he hasn’t left these places for years and had the opportunity to closely observe how casinos trap people.
The general idea here is; casinos direct gamblers to focus on all the machines and create these venues from multiplayer and simple areas.
Let’s talk about why it is not possible to turn at a 90 degree angle in casinos.
The turn rule, which is the 4th of Friedman’s 13 basic principles, is aimed at gamblers not being able to make a sharp turn in these places. Surprisingly, the interior of casinos is designed with twisting corridors and turns.
Many casinos avoid forcing players to turn at a 90-degree angle because a right-angle turn forces people to activate the decision-making parts of their brains, that is, to stop and think about what they are doing.
Of course, casinos do not want people to think about what is being done at that moment and, in a way, they want to direct people. Not to the exit door, but to another game machine!
In his book, Friedman states that he changed the entrance of a casino from a sharp right turn to a curved turn. Thus, the number of guests entering this casino doubles and over time, all casinos begin to adopt this design.
However, Bill Friedman is wrong in his views on the casino’s other interior designs. According to him, these spaces should consist of low ceilings, small rooms and simple decoration.
But Roger Thomas, the pioneer behind casino designs, thinks that Friedman’s idea makes casinos cramped and ugly, so people will spend much less time in these places.
Thomas; He builds a casino with large rooms, high ceilings and stylish design, and he achieves his goal. With this design, Las Vegas earned 4 times the profits of an average casino in its history, and based on this idea, today’s casinos began to be designed with this concept.
In summary, although casinos are places that attract people due to their logic, they develop various strategies in order to make more profit and make people more addicted to games. In other words, even the angle of the steps you take is of great importance in guiding you.
