The UK’s data watchdog Information Commissions Office (ICO) will review Worldcoin, a project by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

Listed on popular cryptocurrency exchanges on July 24, Worldcoin shook the industry. The project, which adds a different perspective to the crypto industry with its artificial intelligence integration, has faced an investigation as of today. The UK’s data watchdog Information Commissions Office has announced that it is scrutinizing Worldcoin.

Statements came from the authorities

Listed on many popular and high-volume crypto exchanges, Worldcoin came under scrutiny almost as soon as it was released. The firm claimed to comply with very, very local and very specific rules and regulations in each of the markets where Orb is. “The spokesperson of the Information Commissioner’s Office expressed his views as follows;

“We note the launch of WorldCoin in the UK and will investigate further. Organizations must also have a clear legal basis for processing personal data. Where they rely on consent, it must be given freely and withdrawn unharmed.”

Worldcoin representatives did not respond to CoinDesk’s request for comment at the time of publication.
