As we enter the last days of 2021, console wars continue at their usual pace. According to the incoming figures, Switch continues to consolidate its position at the top.

Nintendo Switch is on top once again

The chip crisis, which was experienced all over the world in 2021, also had a great impact on console sales. In particular, Sony has officially confirmed that they are struggling to meet the demand in the market and that this problem will continue until the second half of 2022. On the other hand, the Nintendo front, which does not have any problems in producing and launching consoles, maintains its top position with the Switch.

According to the official figures from the VGChartz front, Nintendo Switch once again took the top spot with a total of 1,314,674 units sold between 12 and 18 December. Nintendo, which has reached 100 million console sales in total, has thus managed to enter the 100 million club that includes PS2, Nintendo DS, Game Boy, PS4, PS1 and Nintendo Wii.

Let’s come to the sales figures of other major consoles… The rival of Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, took the second place with a total of 541,390 sales despite the stock problems it experienced. However, Xbox Series X|S managed to take the 3rd place with sales of 459,416 units. With these figures, the total sales of PS5 reached 16.68 million, and the sales of Xbox Series X|S reached 11 million.

Finally, let’s take a look at the sales figures of consoles compared to last year. Compared to the same week for PS4 in 2014, PS5 sales dropped by approximately 174,000 units, while compared to the same week for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S dropped by approximately 67,000 units. PS4 sold 715,000 units in the week ending December 20, 2014, and Xbox One sales totaled 525,948 units.
