The last VIA processor appeared
VIA, which has been operating in the processor market for more than 25 years, could not escape the end that awaited it. Although it licenses its technology to some Chinese designers, Centaur sold its processor unit to Intel last year.
CNS x86 studies started by Centaur Technology in 2016 have also gone to waste. One of them is the CentaurHauls processor with 8 CNS cores, 16MB Level 3 cache, artificial intelligence coprocessor, 16nm manufacturing process, 4-channel DDR4 memory.
CentaurHauls was created as a response to Intel Haswell processors at the time. The resulting Cinebench R23 and Geekbench 5 scores show it catching up with the Ryzen 5 3400G and Intel Core i5-6600 processors in certain scenarios.
It has also been seen that it has a head-to-head performance with 4-core Haswell processors in Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The energy consumption was realized at 65W levels.
It should be said that VIA has done a very successful job for its time. If there were enough opportunities, he could have entered a tooth-to-toe fight with Intel and AMD. However, since billions of dollars of investment and expenditure are required in the sector, it is not possible for VIA to be able to afford it.
