While research on the human body continues, the latest findings are quite surprising. As a result of new research, scientists announced that they have created the first maps of brain temperatures. The findings revealed that brain temperature varies greatly depending on many factors, such as time of day and region of the brain. But our brain is usually much warmer than the rest of our body.
The temperature of the human brain can rise up to 41 degrees
The study was carried out by researchers at the Medical Research Council (MRC) Molecular Biology Laboratory in England. Accordingly, brain temperatures from two groups of people were analyzed. These two groups consist of patients in intensive care who have suffered traumatic brain injury and healthy individuals who volunteered for this research. Morning, afternoon and evening temperatures of both groups were measured throughout the day.
Overall, the mean brain temperature for both groups was higher than their oral temperature. The temperature of the brain was 38.5 degrees on average in the measurements. However, these numbers vary considerably depending on the time of the day.
For example, brain temperature was measured to be lower at night. It was stated that the brain temperature was higher on average in women and elderly individuals. Authorities, who create a four-dimensional temperature map of the brain, can also make a detailed analysis of our brain.
This research is expected to have significant medical implications. It has long been stated that being too hot in the brain can cause serious complications. However, according to the latest research, it was seen that the temperature in healthy brains can rise up to 40.9 degrees. It was determined that this situation did not cause any problems.
The team was unable to find a clear link between high brain temperature and survival odds, even in critically ill patients. The more decisive detail in survival is shown as whether a patient’s brain temperature changes as expected throughout the day.
Scientists plan to do more research on this subject in the future. So what do you think about the relationship between the human brain and temperature? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
