Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to see models with the STI logo from Subaru for a while. The Japanese brand, which introduced the new generation WRX, has not received an explanation about the STI version so far. However, according to the latest statements, the STI logo is returning, electrifying.
The Subaru WRX STI legend returns
The Japanese manufacturer stated that they are working on an electric version of the WRX with its statement. This new model can be hybrid or all-electric. It has not been announced when this version, which we have very limited information about, will be introduced.
Subaru has so far developed its all-electric model range together with Toyota. The Japanese manufacturer has entered electric models with its crosstrek and bZ4X, its platform brother Solterra, and the plug-in hybrid Crosstrek, which uses the same infrastructure as the Prius.
And yet, it would not be wrong to say that the new generation Subaru WRX and WRX STI models will also benefit from this cooperation with Toyota. At this point, it seems quite possible to see a dual power unit in the WRX STI. Depending on the path the Japanese manufacturer will follow, we may encounter a dual electric motor or an internal combustion and an electric motor setup.
In addition to these, the WRX model in the new generation is expected to move away from its Impreza roots. We will probably see the hatchback body again with the new generation. Subaru will also make many tweaks to the vehicle to deliver the full STI experience. It looks like the Japanese manufacturer will have to work overtime before Subaru fans, who have been accustomed to turbocharged engines for years, will appreciate an electric version.
Let’s see how it will be to see the WRX STI, which has been one of the favorite vehicles of car lovers with its all-wheel drive system and powerful engines for years, electric. So what do you think of an electric Subaru WRX STI? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
