Today, although the automobile world is focused on the transition from internal combustion engines to electric motors and autonomous driving, different studies are carried out. Hydrogen is at the forefront of these studies. In this context, Totoya is developing a new zero-emission model prototype for the commercial vehicle market in order to respond to changing customer demands on the road to carbon neutrality and to approach mobility in a holistic way.

Toyota England, which applied to APC last year to support the development of future automotive technologies in the UK, is building the fuel cell prototype of the Hilux with the funds obtained from here.

The Toyota-led consortium of engineering companies such as Ricardo, ETL, D2H and Thatcham Research is converting the Hilux into a fuel-cell vehicle using the second-generation Toyota fuel cell hardware also featured in the new Mirai.

For more than 20 years, Toyota continues to offer a multifaceted approach to the carbon neutral target: full hybrids, plug-in hybrids, electrics and fuel cells. With this approach, the first prototype vehicles will be produced at the Burnaston facility in England.

After the performance results, the target will be to realize a small volume mass production. Underlining that fuel cell technology can be used in different fields with this project, Toyota will contribute to the advancement of the entire industry in reducing carbon.
