The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is reportedly investigating the securities nature of NFTs.

Bloomberg reports that the SEC is investigating whether some NFTs qualify as securities and therefore need to be regulated. Citing sources on the subject, the report includes the statement that SEC lawyers have sent subpoenas to NFT creators and crypto exchanges in the past few months.
SEC Chairman Gensler has previously said that he believes many tokens are securities that should fall under the SEC. Similarly, Bitcoin supporter SEC member Hester Peirce, nicknamed Crypto Mom, also said in the past months that the SEC may soon be in the grip of NFTs.
