Xbox console sales were not going well in the UK until recently, especially for 2023. According to GfK’s data, sales of Xbox Series S and X consoles had decreased by 23 percent year-on-year through the end of August. But the week ending September 2 saw some great news on the Xbox sales front in the country.
Gamesindustry.biz reported that, again according to Gfk data, Xbox Series S and X sales increased by 76 percent in the UK for that week compared to the previous week. As always, the data doesn’t reveal specific unit sales figures for consoles.
This huge increase in Xbox console sales is likely due to two factors. First up is the release of Starfield, a sci-fi RPG game exclusive to the Xbox console. The game was released in early access in the UK on September 1, and Gfk noted a 46 percent increase in Xbox Series X sales for the week ending September 2.
Another factor is the launch of the black 1TB Xbox Series S, which is slightly more expensive compared to the standard white version. Gfk said the model contributed to 20 per cent of all Xbox console sales in the UK in the week ending September 9.
The real question is whether Microsoft can keep this momentum going. The company has another major first-party game, Forza Motorsport, due for release in October, which could help boost sales of the console.
