According to the 29th article of the Law on the Amendment of the Press Law and Certain Laws, known as the social media law and consisting of 40 articles, those who deliberately share false information on social media can be sentenced to imprisonment from 1 year to 3 years.
Which posts will be considered a crime?
According to the statements in the bill; Anyone who publicly disseminates false information about the country’s internal and external security, public order and general health, with the motive of creating anxiety, fear or panic among the public, in a way that is suitable for disturbing the public peace, will be sentenced to imprisonment from 1 year to 3 years. If the perpetrator commits the crime by concealing his real identity or within the framework of the activities of an organization, the penalty in question will be increased by 50 percent.
