We probably won’t be seeing Rocket League’s flying cars in the real world anytime soon. However, BMW and esports brand LVL seem ready to offer us the closest option. The two partner up for a team at Das Race Goal, a Rocket League-style—but real-life—event where remote-controlled cars will play football. Players around the world will steer remote-controlled cars through a real arena in this event.
The first leg of the event will take place on December 12 at 13:00 ET and will be broadcast live on LVL’s Twitch channel. This inaugural competition is aimed at providing aid to the United Nations Population Fund, which aims to improve education and health services for young people in the Caribbean and Latin America. Six three-player teams will compete at Munich’s BMW Welt stadium. Each team will have an esports player (including Cloud9, Fnatic, G2 Esports and OG members), a social media phenomenon, and a young member participating in the UN’s efforts.
Thomas Fellger, president of Das Race Goal partner Icon Group, emphasizes that this is not just a one-off tournament. This tournament is seen as part of a “long-term partnership” that can help the UN’s long-term rights initiatives.
