Faruk Fatih Özer, the founder of the cryptocurrency exchange Thodex, was sentenced to 11 thousand 196 years, 10 months and 15 days in prison in the fraud case he was tried for.
Faruk Fatih Özer, 4 detained defendants, other complainants and the lawyers of the parties attended the hearing held at the Anatolian 9th High Criminal Court.
In the 22-page opinion submitted by the public prosecutor, it was stated that the main purpose of the crypto exchange, which was established on September 14, 2017, since the first day of its establishment, was to deceive and defraud customers who want to invest in crypto assets.
In the opinion, it was noted that the values appearing in the accounts of customers who deposit money to the platform do not actually correspond to anything.
It was noted that in the first days of its establishment, the company carried out its trading activities normally in order to ensure customers’ trust in it, but then advertising agreements were made with famous names and various campaigns were organized in accordance with fraudulent purposes.
According to the information in the opinion, 2,027 people were victimized and the total damage reached 257 million 862 thousand 432 liras.
