The macOS 14 Sonoma update can be installed on MacBooks and newer models released in 2017 and later. However, with the newly released OpenCore Legacy Patcher software, the update can also be installed on Macs that do not support macOS Sonoma.

The latest version of OpenCore Legacy Patcher, a bootloader that allows new macOS versions to run on unsupported older models, is now available for download. Brings macOS Sonoma support to 83 unsupported Mac models. However, there is a warning that development is ongoing and some features will not be offered at first (the list was not shared).

Mac models that can be installed with MacOS Sonoma with OpenCore Legacy Patcher 1.0.0 are as follows:

  • 2008 to 2019 12-inch and 13-inch MacBooks
  • 2009 – 2017 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air
  • 2008 – 2017 13-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro
  • 2009 – 2017 Mac mini
  • 2007 – 2018 20 inch 27 inch iMac
  • 2008 – 2018 Mac Pro

The program can be downloaded from GitHub.
