The Olympic committee made a surprise decision in the past years and announced the eSports Series. We saw that the Olympics started to keep up with the changing world order with the new competitions in which the participants competed in various games. Now, a new game is added to the eSports Series.
Fortnite included in Olympic eSport Series
The Olympic Committee announced that Fortnite was included in the eSports Series with its statement. Accordingly, Fornite will be added to the categories during the Olympic eSports Week to be held in Singapore between June 22nd and June 25th.
The competitions that will be held between 12 players from the Fortnite Champion Series are based on shooting. Participating contestants will compete in a sniping competition on a specially created island of Fornite. For this reason, there will be no war in the organization that set out with the aim of a peaceful competition.
The Olympic eSports Series has so far included nine games, roughly in line with real-world sports run by international federations. Games to be featured in the tournament series include the dance game Just Dance, the online motorsport racing game Gran Turismo 7, and the virtual bike game Zwift. In addition, categories such as chess, shooting, and baseball make up the Olympic eSport Series.
The International Olympic Committee, which does not include violent games, brings a debate on this issue. Many gamers want games such as Counter Strike and League of Legends, which are among the most played games in the world, to be included in the organization. The Olympic Committee, on the other hand, has not yet changed its stance on this issue.
On the other hand, with Fortnite, we will have the opportunity to watch a popular game in the Olympics for the first time. The new Olympic eSports Series events can be followed on Olympics.com and Olympics’ social media channels. So what do you think about this subject?
