The expected step for the Android world, which persistently keeps its distance against eSIM technology, came from Google. Continuing to work to increase its market share in the industry, the company has rolled up its sleeves to bring the popular feature used in iPhone models since 2018 to the Google Pixel series. Here are the details.
eSIM technology is coming to Google Pixel series
The features of the series, which will be released this fall, of Google’s Pixel 8/8 Pro, are gradually becoming clear. In the last leaked render images of the phones that will meet their users towards the end of the year, the lack of SIM slots in the new iPhones (like in the USA) did not escape attention. After the iPhone family, the Google Pixel series will start a new era in the Android world with the eSIM feature.
So what is this eSIM? eSIM, as the name suggests, does not require a physical SIM. It’s in a digital SIM location that allows you to activate the cellular data plan your carrier provides. It also allows you to use 2 phone numbers at the same time.
Google has not made a definitive statement on this matter. However, the latest data and leaked render images in Google Play Services indicate that the manufacturer continues to work on this technology.
eSIM technology is available from 2016. Apple, one of the first companies to step into this field, officially launched this feature with the iPhone Xs, which it showcased in 2018. The company’s phones currently support both physical and eSIM simultaneously, except in countries like the US. If the rumors are true, the Google Pixel 8 series will be available to users with only eSIM support without a SIM slot.
