Fairphone has announced that the Fairphone 2 will expire in March 2023. This phone was released in October 2015; this means almost 7.5 years of update time. However, it seems that the end of the road has been reached.
Fairphone is a very small Dutch company that doesn’t have as many resources as Google, Samsung, BBK and other big technology giants, but we can say that it has managed to leave the technology giants behind with its support program. Because the support they have given for 7.5 years is more than enough.
The whole aim of the company is to provide easily repairable phones, available spare parts and long update support and avoid frequent replacement of phones. The Fairphone 4 currently on the market offers a 5-year hardware warranty and a 6-year update period, adding to the company’s reputation. Unfortunately, these phones are only available in the UK and Europe.
Updating the Fairphone 2 for so long has been a big undertaking for Fairphone, mostly without Qualcomm’s help. However, he was able to continue to a certain extent.
Fairphone 2 owners will of course be able to continue using their phones. However, the company states that in case of continued use, it will be the users’ own responsibility. On the other hand, the company also offers an exchange program for its phone. Fairphone says it will offer a 50 Euro loan for anyone who wants to replace their phone.
