As it is known, there are strict restrictions on the use of telephones in airplanes, which are considered to be one of the greatest inventions of the century and one of the most comfortable means of transportation. The reason for this is that the use of electronic devices that communicate with electromagnetic waves, such as mobile phones, has a direct effect on the navigation and communication systems in aircraft.

With the 5G technology, the use of the phone on the plane begins

This long-standing rule may soon be a thing of the past. The European Commission adapts mobile communications legislation to the most modern standards. As a result, 5G coverage could also be made available on airplanes.

With this decision, airlines within the European Union will install the latest 5G technology on their aircraft, allowing passengers to use their smartphones and other connected devices just as they would on the ground. Thus, passengers will not have to turn off their phones when they board the plane.

5G coverage will be possible with the installation of a system called “pico-cell” on the aircraft. Through this network station, phone calls, text messages and data connection can be sent to a mobile network on the ground via a satellite network.

The Commission also wants to open 5 GHz frequencies on WiFi in cars, buses and other transportation vehicles. In this context, EU Member States have until 30 June 2023 to make the 5GHz bands accessible for road transport.

The phone ban on airplanes, which has been controversial for a long time, may soon be a thing of the past. This new step, which started in the European Union, will spread all over the world with the development of 5G technology. So what do you think about the ban on phone usage on airplanes?
