Global warming and climate change have become very dangerous for humanity in recent years. Many reports contain worst-case scenarios for Earth. Finally, scientists from the University of Waterloo in Ontario have released a frightening statement about the ozone layer.
Scientists have discovered a huge new hole in the ozone layer
With the effect of global warming, it was expected that there would be thinning and perforations in the ozone layer from place to place. But the University of Waterloo discovered an unexpected hole. What makes the invention really interesting is that this hole has existed for more than 30 years.
Scientists previously knew of the existence of a hole on Antarctica that opened and closed from time to time. This hole enlarges in the spring and remains almost closed in other periods. The newly found hole remains open all the time.
In their statement, scientists expressed the frightening dimensions of the ozone layer hole. It is said that the hole covers almost the entire tropical region. It is estimated to be about seven times the size of the hole in Antarctica.
Professor Qing-Bin Lu from the University of Waterloo stated that the hole found will increase UV radiation on Earth in the coming years. Additionally, he noted, tropical regions can have many other adverse effects on their ecosystems and health.
