The Counter-Strike series, which imprisoned some of us in internet cafes when we were young, is so pervasive that we seem to have grown up with the game. From version 1.5 to Global Offensive, we have accumulated separate memories with each game. Along with these memories, we also witnessed the modernization of the series.

The huge update on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has also been remembered as the pinnacle of this modernization. Because the changes that came from the basic game engine to weapon and character models, physics, skins, and in addition to these, the innovations that came to the game made us feel like a glass of water that gave us life at midnight. But there is also something in the series that has survived all these years and changes and has remained untouched.

Our announcer, who announced the winner at the end of the game, has been with us for a long time.

We were playing the legendary game Counter-Strike 1.6 when we first heard this voice from the same guy. Since then, these audio files have never been touched. This voice, which occasionally makes certain announcements to both teams, is thought to be the leader of one of the two teams. We can hear the sound in question both when defrosting a bomb and during prisoner rescue missions.

So who was this really?

The real creator of the sound we’re talking about is Jess Cliffe, one of the creators of Counter-Strike. He was involved in the game’s website and public relations while the game was being developed. In addition to these two, he was also responsible for making some of the footage and sound effects. These sound effects included announcements that were the subject of our content.

Of course, after the game became popular, it was bought by Valve as we know. With this acquisition, Jess and series co-creator Minh Le were also offered jobs at Valve. This acquisition took place in 2000 and since Counter-Strike 1.6 we have always heard the same “Terrorists win” and “Counter-Terrorists win” sounds.

Let’s add a piece of information you probably haven’t heard of at the end. Jess was arrested for sexual misconduct on February 2, 2018. Jess got into big trouble because she met a 16-year-old girl online, whom she didn’t know. But she had shown that the accusations against her with different evidence were false. Jess, who was looking for a long-term relationship on the internet at that time, made warnings for those who met online after these events.
