With the James Webb Space Telescope starting to work at full capacity, it continues to experience the firsts in human history. The most powerful space telescope ever has taken a dazzling look at extremely distant and extremely ancient galaxies.

James Webb Space Telescope continues to find the most distant galaxies

Early data from the Cosmic Evolution Early Release Science Survey (CEERS) reveal a stunning image of a galaxy cluster containing one of the most distant galaxies ever observed. This galaxy, which is expressed as the shift degree of the red light spectrum is 14, brings us one step closer to the formation of the universe.

This galaxy is even more distant than the one that previously made headlines, with a shift of 13 in the red light spectrum. These degrees represent how far galaxies have traveled since the universe was formed. For example, a galaxy with a ‘z’ value of more than 8 indicates that it has been traveling for more than 13 billion years. Since the expansion of the universe is bidirectional, it can be said that the distance of this galaxy from Earth is more than 26 billion years.

A galaxy with a ‘z’ value of 14 has never been found before. This galaxy is estimated to have formed just 290 million years after the Big Bang. This period, on the other hand, marks the era called ‘Re-ionization’, when hydrogen began to ionize and light began to shine for the first time in the universe.

Scientists think there are many galaxies at a similar distance. So experts will be able to do a lot of work on these very old galaxies. In the light of the studies, it is aimed to find answers to some questions about the formation of the universe.

It seems that much more distant galaxies will continue to be found with the help of the James Webb Space Telescope. So what do you think of these distant galaxies? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
