Increasing number of global internet users
The highlights of the Digital 2021 October Global Report, which also provides data about TikTok, are as follows:
- More than two-thirds of the world’s population currently uses mobile phones. The number of users increased by almost 100 million in the last 12 months, reaching 5.29 billion in October 2021.
- There are 4.88 billion internet users globally. That means almost 62 percent of the world’s population. The latest data shows that the number of global internet users increased by more than 220 million last year. However, the actual number may be higher as research has been disrupted due to the pandemic.
- Social media users, on the other hand, increased by more than 400 million in the last 12 months to 4.55 billion in October 2021. Although the user growth has slowed a bit in the last 3 months, more than 1 million new users are arriving globally every day.
However, let’s not go without mentioning that the world population reached 7.89 billion at the beginning of October 2021 in order to better see the user rate. There is an increase of approximately 80 million compared to this time last year. It is estimated that the global population will exceed 8 billion by mid-2023.
The rise in social media platforms continues

TikTok reaches 1 billion users
