Sony has confirmed that its upcoming premium PlayStation 5 controller, DualSense Edge, has less battery life than DualSense.

In response to a question TechRadar Gaming asked during a hands-on session with the new PS5 controller, Sony announced that the DualSense Edge will have less battery life than the standard DualSense PS5 controller due to the new features it has.

“The DualSense Edge wireless controller’s runtime is slightly shorter than the original DualSense wireless controller because we’ve added a lot more features to the same form factor and ergonomic design as the original DualSense controller,” a Sony spokesperson told TechRadar Gaming. “We wanted to strike a good balance between uptime and delivering robust, high-performance features. Also, the longer USB braided cable is a great choice for competitive gamers who prefer to play with a wired connection to avoid wireless interference, this option saves battery life.”

One of the biggest hopes for the DualSense Edge was the possibility of offering longer battery life. While Sony hasn’t specified how many hours of battery life the Edge has, we don’t think it will be more than 12 hours. On the other hand, considering that the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 has 40 hours of battery life, this news may disappoint gamers.

Sony PlayStation DualSense Edge will be released on January 26, 2023.
