Over the weekend, the Tesla app in the App Store was updated to version 4.24.0 and the list of changes included a sentence: “Access your vehicle controls and air conditioning from the Apple Shortcuts app.” Thanks to this update, the Tesla app has Apple Shortcuts support. In this way, it became possible to manage Tesla with Siri.
It has become possible to manage Tesla with Siri!
Previously, Tesla owners were able to perform certain tasks remotely through the Tesla app. With this update, however, the Tesla app now integrates with the Apple Shortcuts app, allowing Tesla owners to say “Hey Siri” on their iPhone or Apple Watch to remotely lock and unlock the door of their Tesla vehicle.
According to the list of supported shortcuts published by Tesla North, you can have your Tesla start or stop charging with Siri thanks to the Shortcuts app. You can open and close the trunk, front trunk and charging port. You can toggle sentry mode and dog mode (keeps AC on even when car is unattended). You can also lock and unlock the vehicle’s doors remotely.
Two paid apps in the App Store, Tessie and the Watch app for Tesla, let you use Siri Shortcuts on your iPhone or Apple Watch to control your Tesla. But now that this capability is available for free in the native Tesla app, Tesla owners can ask Siri to remotely perform some tasks for their car without having to pay for this convenience.
It’s worth noting that the Shortcuts app allows iPhone users to use both ready-made and custom shortcuts by asking Siri to perform tasks. Slowly but surely, Apple continues to take Tesla under its wing. In December, Apple Music became available on Tesla as part of an update released for the holiday season.
Just last month, the AirPlay code was discovered in an update to the iOS Tesla app. Theoretically, this suggests that in the future, an iPhone user with a Tesla can “turn” their iPhone screen to a Tesla entertainment screen.
AirPlay allows users to wirelessly stream audio, video, photos and other content from their iPhone to a larger screen. Instead of using Bluetooth, users can rely on AirPlay to stream their music over the speakers in Tesla vehicles.
