Popular messaging app WhatsApp, which recently included its paid Premium version in its beta program, has now decided to increase the number of participants in groups. According to the information revealed by WABetaInfo, the company has rolled up its sleeves to double the number of people in groups.
The number of WhatsApp group participants is increasing again
WhatsApp paved the way for users to add up to 512 participants to groups in beta tests in June, and later made it publicly available. Thanks to this feature, users were able to create groups with larger audiences than before. The company decided to increase the group limit again. Accordingly, the platform will soon increase the maximum number of people supported by groups to 1024.
The instant messaging platform is also working on a ‘pending participants’ section for group admins to see and approve people who want to join a group. In this case, group administrators can see a list of pending participants and approve them as members accordingly.
This feature is currently only available to a limited number of beta users. To check if the feature is available in your account, open your WhatsApp and try to create a group or add new participants to an existing group. In this section you will be able to see the limit configured for your account. If you still see “512”, don’t worry. Very soon this limit will be expanded. In addition, this feature will be available to both Android and iOS users.
WhatsApp will rival Telegram with this feature
This feature will help WhatsApp compete with other instant messaging apps like Telegram. Telegram, as it currently stands, has a limit of 200,000 people in a group. Although the new limit of the application is not like Telegram’s, it seems to be more than enough for now. This is useful for businesses or if you’re using a group for broadcast purposes.
