China has imposed new restrictions on the export of a number of rare elements with vital value for chip production. This decision, which includes elements such as scandy and dysprosium, can make it difficult to reach the modules used on hard drives with signal modules on phones.

Compared to new rules, companies that want to send works including elements of scandyum, dysprosium, gadolinium, my education, samarium, itrium and lutsyum, need to take special permission from China. This seems to be almost impossible to affect these equipment -dependent technology giants such as Broadcom, Qualcomm, TSMC, Samsung, Seagate and Western Digital. Moreover, this draws attention to the fact that China has the third major export restriction for less land elements.

New chip crisis on the road

Scandyum, 5G phones, base stations and Wi-Fi filters used in the production of filters. Dysprosium was used to increase the performance of magnets found in hard disk drivers and electric vehicle engines at high temperatures. China had taken precedent steps in other critical equipment, previously antimony, gallium, germanium and tungsten.

It was emphasized that these steps taken by China did not mean a direct ban on export. However, it was said that each new regulation made it even more difficult to reach critical equipment at different points of the production chain. Cutting sources, for example, drew attention to the possibility of restrictions to come back to the agenda in the coming period.
