iOS 17, iPadOS 17 and watchOS 10 are finally available to everyone. The update comes with many new features such as improvements to iMessage, FaceTime, and NameDrop. Although iOS 17 features are not mentioned much in its content, it also brings many new functionalities to the “Shortcuts” application. Apple has published a detailed document highlighting everything new in the Shortcuts app.

What changed in the Shortcuts app with iOS 17?

Apple describes the Shortcuts app as “a quick way to complete one or more tasks with your apps.” Users have endless possibilities to create automations using native iOS features as well as integrations with third-party apps.

Even more features are available to users with iOS 17, watchOS 10 and macOS Sonoma (available on September 26). For example, you can now create shortcuts to convert an audio file to text, clear alarms, scan documents, or create a Time Machine backup. Here’s a list of new commands available with updates, including:

  • Convert Audio to Text creates text from an audio file.
  • Clear Alarms removes specified alarms from the clock.
  • Edit Snooze Alarm skips the next snooze alarm or reactivates a skipped snooze alarm.
  • Open Camera opens the Camera app in a specific shooting mode, such as “Selfie.”
  • Open Collection goes to a specific section of the Photos app, such as “Places.”
  • Show Passwords goes to Passwords in Settings on iOS and System Settings on macOS.
  • End workout ends your current workout session on iOS and watchOS.
  • Scan Document captures an image and saves it in the Files app on iOS.
  • Current Start Timer, Pause Timer, Resume Timer, and Cancel Timer options are now available.
  • Start Stopwatch, Lap Stopwatch, Stop Stopwatch, and Reset Stopwatch are now supported.
  • Starting Time Machine Backup starts or stops backing up your data with Time Machine in macOS.

Apple made some changes, although not radical, with iOS 17. iOS 17, which offers an attractive interface with contact posters, new AirDrop features, wallpaper and customization options, showed us that it is not the same as a security update with the Shortcuts features we mentioned above. Of course, more innovations can be added to devices with iOS 17.x versions.
