Swedish automobile giant Volvo has been focusing on electric and hybrid vehicles for a while. The company, which does its best to turn the revolution in the industry in its favor, has already launched hybrid or fully electric versions of some of its models so far. However, the company is working relentlessly to expand its electric vehicle range.
The company has been on the agenda for a while with the all-electric version of its very popular SUV model, the XC90. In fact, there is a hybrid version of this giant SUV that has been released. The hybrid engine of the vehicle, called “Volvo XC90 Recharge”, can offer this vehicle an extra range of up to 93 kilometers. However, the company also wants an all-electric version of this “flagship” SUV model.
The name of the all-electric XC90 will change
Hakan Samuelsson, who has been in the CEO seat of Volvo since 2012, gave an interview to Automotive News. Speaking about the upcoming all-electric flagship SUV in this interview, Samuelsson stated that the XC90 name will be changed. According to Samuelsson’s statement, the new name of the SUV would begin with a vowel.
The statements made by Hakan Samuelsson did not give a detailed clue about the name of the XC90. However, Volvo fans have started a comprehensive study of what this name could be. As a result of the investigations; It turns out that Volvo has recently filed a trademark application for the phrase “Embla”. The fact that the company has not used the Embla phrase in any of its vehicles or services it has released to date, made us think that the name of the XC90’s successor emerged. Because Volvo has not filed another trademark application that starts with a vowel in the last 4 years.
What does embla mean?
The name Embla, which Volvo trademarked in October 2021, means a lot to Scandinavian mythology. So much so that the myth of the first human, known as “Adam and Eve” by many cultures, is referred to as “Askr and Embla” for Scandinavians. It is believed that Embla was the first woman created by the gods. Considering the XC90’s place in the industry and how important it is to Volvo, we can easily say that this phrase is largely in line with the all-electric SUV.
The successor of the Volvo XC90 will appear in a recreated form. The launch, which is stated to be held in 2022, will likely reveal all the technical details of the brand new SUV, which will be called Embla. . .
