Researchers exploring the deep ocean off the coast of Alaska stumbled upon something surprising while driving a remotely operated vehicle (ROV); they found a mysterious golden orb on the seafloor, and no one was sure what it was.
Journeys thousands of feet below the surface have revealed all sorts of bizarre discoveries, from creepy yellow-brick roads to bizarre Mariana Trench animals. We’re said to know more about the surface of the Moon than we do about the deep seas, and that idea was proven once again when scientists found mysterious golden eggs.
The luminous matter was found anchored on a rocky surface at a depth of 3.1 kilometers. Most interestingly, the mystery object had a hole in it, and a researcher said during the live broadcast, “Something tried to get in… or get out.”
This golden orb, likely an egg casing, struck an imaginative chord for many watching yesterday.
Today we dive on Denson Seamount. ROVs are launching & will remain on the seafloor until ~ 3:45pm ADKT/7:45pm EDT.

Theories put forward within the scope of the study are that it could be the remains of a shiny eggshell or some kind of sponge, but there is no definite answer yet. It will take closer examination to identify the mysterious orb.
The reconnaissance Seascape Alaska 5 began moving through the waters stretching from Alaska to Seward on August 23. The expedition focuses on marine habitats below 200 meters, going as deep as 6,000 meters and mapping the environment as they go.
