Research company Counterpoint Research has announced the most popular mobile operating systems. Huawei Harmonyos left iOS behind and became the second largest mobile operating system in China. Android lost the user against his rival iOS.

Harmonyos’s rise continues

According to Counterpoint Research, the adoption rate of Harmonyos against Android and iOS continues to increase rapidly. Harmonyos, which was 8 %in the first quarter of 2023 in China, rose to 17 %in the last quarter of 2024. In the same period, the share of iOS decreased to 16 %, while Android has maintained its position as a market leader.

The operating system, which maintains 4 %on a global scale, managed to leave Apple’s iOS platform behind in four quarters in China. Of course, especially the Chinese government’s incentives to domestic smartphone brands are one of the most important factors supporting the growth of Harmonyos. With Huawei’s move to localization of the supply chain, Harmonyos’ market share is expected to increase in 2025 further.

As for Android, it is still the largest mobile operating system on a global scale, but there has been a decline in the market share in certain markets. In the last quarter of 2024, the use of Android in large markets such as the US and India has decreased to the lowest level of history.

On the other hand, the sales of Motorola and Google in the United States balanced the overall decline in the market. Although small manufacturers experienced double -digit decreases, iPhone sales showed only 1 %decline. In India, the demand for the former model iPhones reached a record level, and two of all three iPhones sold in the last quarter of 2024 consisted of previous generation models.
