Microsoft is making an effort to bring some of the classic features back to the Windows 11 taskbar. The software giant had previously added the ability to launch Task Manager when right-clicking on the taskbar and the ability to show seconds in the system tray in Windows 11. Now, the taskbar feature, which has been around for years but disappeared in Windows 11, is being brought back.

Outgoing feature is back

If you are using Windows 11, you may have seen that the items on the taskbar are always unified and the “Never merge” feature is not in the settings. Microsoft is apparently bringing this “legacy” feature to Windows 11. The video shared by Albacore on Twitter also shows that it looks the same as in previous versions of Windows when “show app tag” is enabled.

These features are very important for users who manually manage the location of running applications in the Taskbar and want to see the titles of running applications. This feature is currently being tested in the latest Windows 11 Dev version and is expected to come to end users with an official update later in the year. Microsoft has been trying to enrich the taskbar for a while. The company is also trying to integrate the AI-powered Bing Chat feature into the Search tab on the taskbar. Although Bing can be accessed with a few clicks for now, it seems that internal queries will be made in future versions.
