According to Gurman, iPhone users will indeed have the ability to install apps from outside the App Store, but this feature will only be available in the European region. It looks like the company will have to take this step to avoid violating the EU’s Digital Markets Act.
“They will not open to the whole world”
“I think it will be unique to Europe. I think they will not shoot themselves in the foot unless necessary and they will not spread this feature to the rest of the world,” said Gurman.
Gurman, a highly reliable source on Apple, also added that the company will not announce this feature during the WWDC conference as previously thought. Apple’s World Developers Conference will be held from June 5-9, 2023.
