The company called Blackdot introduced a tattoo machine that can be used as NFT. While it was stated that each tattoo made will be unique, just like NFTs, it was also noted that the artist of the work will receive royalties for each use of the tattoo.

It will be unique

Austin-based Blackdot has introduced a machine that can create tattoos that are stored on the blockchain and double as NFTs. The designs coming out of the machine will allow artists to earn copyrights when used. The project, supported by famous digital artist Tyler Hobbs, will create “one-of-a-kind” tattoos.

“When I started seeing what the Blackout device could do, the level of precision and detail it could achieve was mind-blowing,” Hobbs said. “It just seemed like such a natural fit, this blend of digital and human, combining human and machine in some way is a really big passion of mine artistically, and so the opportunity to work with Blackdot was really exciting for me.” he said.

On the other hand, pieces from Hobbs’ Fidenza collection have been sold for millions of dollars in the past.

Additionally, Blackdot said it plans to offer custom designs from a number of different artists who will create tattoos that buyers will also own as NFTs.

More detailed than hand made

Before tattooing a customer, the Blackdot device uses a small number of discreet test points (about the same diameter as a human hair) to determine the appropriate point depth for each customer’s skin type, the company said.

“Artists are always amazed by the fidelity and accuracy with which the Blackdot device can reproduce their work on skin,” said Yan Azdoud, Blackdot CTO. he said and added:

“Our greyscale dots are 25mm in diameter and we can tattoo them with surgical precision, allowing us to achieve highly detailed designs that cannot be tattooed by hand.”

Additionally, Blackdot CEO and founder Joel Pennington said the company believes its new product “has the power to change culture and change the way people think about art, tattoos, and self-expression.”
