Due to the great mechanics and gameplay features it promises, it creates an expectation by arousing a great desire by the players. In this content, we have brought together the games developed in the longest time.

Productions with a very long development process

Alan Wake (5 years)

Developed by Finnish company Remedy Entertainment, Alan Wake is a third-person shooter psychological thriller. The production, which takes place in Washington in terms of story, begins with Alan and his wife Alice taking a short vacation. Then the ropes break and things get mixed up.

Remedy Entertainment is also in the developer seat of games called Max Payne 1-2. Tired of these productions, the company decided to try a different genre, and at this point Alan Wake came up with the idea. The game, which started its development process in 2003, reached its final form in 2008. However, things did not go well.

The non-linear storytelling and massive scale of the game have brought it down a bit. The Microsoft Games Studios partnership, which came in 2006, pushed the production into a very complicated situation. Although various obstacles were passed, Alan Wake met with the players on the Xbox 360 platform in May 2010. The PC version also came two years later.

Mafia II (6 years)

Mafia II, released by 2K Games on August 23, 2010, was appreciated by the players. The production, which is about the action environment of the Italian mafia, brought Vito Scaletta into our lives. In Mafia II, which has a third-person shooter genre, we combine Empire Bay. This city was referenced from the Imperial State, the nickname of the state of New York.

The game, which started its development process in 2004, ended six years later in 2010. While Mafia II was normally expected to be released in 2009, an unexpected delay came. The reason for this was the game engine change decision that came in the middle of the production. First of all, the release of the PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions of the production using a licensed engine was within the scope of the plans. Then the studio, which created its own engines, decided to bring Mafia II to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

L.A. Noire (7 years)

L. A. Noire, released by Rockstar Games on May 17, 2011, was a game in which we played the role of detective. The production, which is about the third-person shooter genre, was a production where we brought the criminals to justice by collecting clues in various events.

L. There is only one reason why the game called A. Noire was exposed to such a long time in development. This was the MotionScan system that Rockstar Games used in production at that time. This feature appeared as a high-tech face capture option. It was aimed to provide very realistic facial animations by recording facial expressions with 32 cameras.

Technology has become the backbone of the entire interrogation system within L. A. Noire. Although it looks nice, the delay of the game’s release caused a great wait by the fans. After a while, Rockstar Games increased the budget of the production to 50 million dollars. This made it one of the most expensive video games developed of the era.

Team Fortress 2 (9 years)

Valve undertook the developer of the Team Fortress game, which was introduced to the players on October 10, 2007. The production, which has a first-person shooter type, is about the struggle between two opponents. The names of these teams are called RED and BLU. Players first choose their team and then choose their character. After that, a fierce battle begins.

Team Fortress 2’s development process first started in 1998. Since this process, he appeared before the players at the E3 fair in 1999. It was then that the first concept of the production was shown. It was a Battlefield style military themed tactical shooter. After a while, there was a 5-year silence when the GoldSrc game engine was switched from the GoldSrc game engine to Source.

Re-emerging at the EA Summer Showcase in 2006, Team Fortress 2 has taken a completely different form than it did in 1999. Five years after its debut, the game was released to all fans for free.

Final Fantasy XV (10 years)

Developed by Square Enix, one of the well-known studios in the game world, Final Fantasy XV first appeared in front of players in 2016. The 15th production of the series takes place in a fictional world, Eos. At this point, the main character of the game sets out to get his homeland and the magical crystal, which he captured during the peace negotiations.

The production, whose development process started in 2006, became one of Square Enix’s most ambitious projects. This production also faced various difficulties, as we mentioned above. The game, which was developed especially with the Crystal Tools game engine, entered the process of being delayed continuously.

Before Final Fantasy XV came out, there was no material to put in front of fans. Even its subject has changed several times during this period. However, after 10 years of development, the production was incomplete. The production’s last three DLCs have been canceled and Director Hajime Tabata has left the company.

Diablo III (11 years)

Released by Blizzard Entertainment on May 15, 2012, Diablo III has been in development since 2001. After 11 years of development, he appeared before the players. The current latest game in the action-role-playing series, it sold 3.5 million units in the first 24 hours, making it the best-selling PC game of 2012.

The game’s development disruption begins with some of Blizzard North’s key elements clashing with Vivendi. With the closure of the studio in 2005, a different Diablo-like game set in space went to waste. The development phase resumed in 2008, seven years after the start. Finally, in 2012, the finishing touches were made and it was ready.

Unreal World was created by two developers. It should also be noted that it is the first sandbox roguelike game. The duo, who started the project in 1990, presented their productions to the actors two years later. The price of the game is currently set at 19 TL on Steam.
