The first full-color image expected from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, which took decades to build and for which $10 billion was spent, was released by US President Joe Biden at the White House briefing.
This first image shows thousands of galaxies – including the faintest objects ever observed – that have emerged for the first time thanks to Webb’s abilities. This is the deepest view of the cosmos ever captured.
“Today is a historic day,” said President Biden. …”
NASA officials said that several new images from the James Webb Telescope will also be released in the coming hours.
The images are the first wave of full-color scientific images the telescope has collected and show the furthest point humanity has ever seen, in both time and distance. In addition, this first image is considered the official beginning of James Webb’s general science operations.
