Silent Hill will undoubtedly be one of the first two games that come to mind when it comes to horror games. One of the masterpieces played by a generation from tube television to morning; Silent Hill 2 met the user exactly 20 years ago. So what made the game so successful?
Silent Hill 2, which was released for PlayStation 2 by Konami in 2001, connected a generation with Resident Evil. The horror and survival-themed game was released to Windows in 2002, and to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012, in a remastered high-definition version.
20 years of legend: Silent Hill 2
The Konami team, which started working for the game in June 1999, intended to continue the success in the first game. In this direction, he created a new story inspired by Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s novel Crime and Punishment written in 1866. Containing details specific to history, cinema and literature, Silent Hill 2 features traces from directors such as David Cronenberg, David Fincher, David Lynch and Alfred Hitchcock.
Silent Hill 2, which proceeds independently from the first game in terms of story and location, takes place in a town named after the game. The main character, James Sunderland, receives a letter from his wife, Mary, who died three years ago due to an illness. In this letter, Mary tells James that she is waiting for him “at their private place in Silent Hill.” Hearing this, the character gets in his car and goes to town and starts looking for his wife.
A normal person, James goes to town knowing that the letter did not come from his wife. In addition, in the completely deserted area of Silent Hill, it is quite possible that you will come across people living in a different universe and creatures coming out of the fog.
You often see different people living in the same place in the process of the game. As a matter of fact, while 23-year-old Eddie, who was despised in his high school life, has no monsters in his town, everything is on fire in Angela’s Silent Hill, who was abused by her father when she was a child.
The soundtrack album of 74 minutes and 15 seconds is one of the details that make the game unforgettable. This music adds to the atmosphere of the game and attracts the player. Also, a video of the game that surfaced years later hints that it was all edited by the Shiba Inu. This shows that a very old game still has interesting details and deserves to be called a legend.
Twenty years have not made Silent Hill 2 old at all. The game, which debuted at the same time as GTA 3, Ico, Max Payne, Devil May Cry, which was released at the same time, managed to be unforgettable. So have you played this game? What do you think about Silent Hill 2?
