The legendary car will continue on its way electric!

Mazda’s MX-5, which has been on the market for many years and proving that a car does not have to be powerful to be fun, will appear in its new generation in 2026. Mazda has announced that it has taken an important decision for the MX-5 (Miata), which has always managed to attract attention with its design and weight distribution.

Mazda MX-5 steps into electric motor

Mazda has confirmed that the next-generation MX-5 Miata will be introduced in 2026 and will be “electric.” The Japanese automaker gave details about the powertrain of the new generation model. Therefore, it is said that the vehicle will have a hybrid, plug-in hybrid or fully electric engine.

With all these claims, Mazda has recently increased its investment in fully electric cars. Mazda recently announced that it has partnered with Rohm Semiconductor to develop electric motors and Envision AESC for batteries. That’s why we might see an all-electric MX-5 in 2026.

However, Mazda has a big obstacle in this regard. It is a big question mark how the car, which has so far offered a fun ride to car lovers with its light structure and balanced weight distribution rather than powerful engines, will fight heavy batteries.

Mazda also dispelled the belief that fun cars had to be expensive by offering the MX-5 at affordable prices until now. The Japanese manufacturer needs to use carbon fiber parts to keep the weight at a certain level. This will significantly increase the cost of the vehicle.

For the electric Mazda MX-5, the brand faces two major hurdles. Therefore, it should be said that the MX-5 model, which will be introduced in 2026, is likely to be a hybrid. We expect to see which direction the Mazda MX-5’s destiny will take in the near future.

Mazda gave the first clues about the new generation MX-5 with the Vision concept it introduced earlier. Mazda Miata, one of the first models that comes to mind when it comes to fun cars, let’s see what kind of power unit will it come up with? So what do you think about the new generation MX-5?
