An interview was conducted with Naughty Dog’s creative director, Neil Druckmann. In the interview, he was asked about the fate of the upcoming Last of Us multiplayer game and the potential development of The Last of Us Part III.
Neil Druckmann kept his mouth shut on the fate of Last of Us
In response to recent reports suggesting that the Last of Us multiplayer project has been put on hold, Druckmann provided little clarity, stating that he “does not have any updates” on the matter and declined to comment on a potential third installment of the series.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Druckmann expressed his deep love for the game’s world and acknowledged both the studio’s and fans’ passion for the series. However, he was evasive about any future developments beyond focusing on the planned release of TLoU Part II Remastered.
Druckmann revealed that Naughty Dog has other projects in the works. While he has previously stated that the studio has already chosen its next game, he has remained secretive about whether it will be the rumored sci-fi game The Last of Us: Part III or a completely different project. Despite fans’ persistent desire for a third installment to be added to the series, Druckmann emphasized that the studio is moving forward with its next project and the decision has been finalized.
Recent news touching on Last of Us’ multiplayer indicated that Naughty Dog had halted development of the game following a review by Destiny’s developer Bungie. Meanwhile, the studio is preparing for The Last of Us Part II Remastered, which is scheduled to release on PS5 in January 2024.
